A mother is our first friend
Our first playmate
Our first protector
She is there to feed us when we are hungry
To comfort us when we are hurt
To reassure us when we are afraid
To make us laugh and see the good in the world.
She helps us to grow into the adults we will become.
Throughout our lives, our Mom was always there for us.
And as she grew older, it was our turn to be there for her.
My sisters Janice, Jeanne and I became the caregivers and protectors.
Now that she is gone
We are sad and will miss her and have only memories to hold on to.
But they are good memories of a long life lived among family whom she loved and who loved her.
We will miss her laughter and her kind spirit
Her love of dancing (even at 97) and her joy in shouting “Bingo!”
But that is the circle of life and there is comfort in knowing that we had many years to share with her. Those memories will live in our hearts forever.
